Birthday Dress

I wish I could say I took the time to write you a tutorial for this dress. It all starts with a onesie and once you have your groove down and your girl's measurements, you can pump these out within 30 minutes.  

The belt is made out of this gorgeous stretch velvet I found on etsy, and I have a sweet little matching yo-yo head band for Elise to wear too. I'm thinking bout doing an Easter dress this style for her too.

Raspberry Stripes

Sweet little striped quilt for a baby soon to be born. Mama-to-be is having her shower this weekend. She doesn't know I've been working on something so I think she'll be tickled (pink, of course) to unwrap this goody along with her other surprises.

 The main fabric is an oldie Amy Butler, and I just added a bunch of other strips to go along with it. I backed it with a snuggly raspberry flannel. It's so soft and warm. Baby girl is lucky Elise is too big for it:). I quilted it with simple stripes. 

 

I think it fits her style perfectly. Not too girlie and not too frilly. And as a plus, the daddy's favorite color is orange so I snuck a little in there for him too.

Sneak peak at what I am hand binding by the fire this week. The basement is a little cold for sewing, and the fire is so inviting. It's baby size. I'll have finished pictures next week. I am so excited to have one of my UFO's finished! Onto the next one.

Introducing Ava

I'm so excited to introduce you to Ava the fox. She was created after Sew to Speak announced their theme for their annual softie contest. I had her face in my head immediately and with the help of Brian, drafted her out and she was thus created.

 

I am so thrilled with how she came out. I was able to pull everything from my stash which made it even better because it was pretty late at night and no stores were open when I was itching to start sewing. And, it's hard to have to wait sometimes to go buy fabric when you want to start like now!

She has little mary jane shoes and her skirt is made out of vintage fabric with little pink roses on it that I picked up at a flea market originally for a dress for Elise. That's still the plan, but even sweeter now that she'll match her little fox. 

Elise saw her in transit when we were dropping her off at the store to turn her in and was just itching to get her hands on Ava......which thrilled me even more because after the contest is said and done, she'll be Elise's to snuggle up with and invite to tea parties along with Ruby Lou.

Entry sneak peak

As I mentioned yesterday I've been working on something little to enter into a local competition. Sew to Speak, my favorite LQS is hosting their annual softie contest. This year's theme is fox. I had way too much fun all over pinterest looking for inspiration.....even my sister thought I was going a little loonie before she learned what I was doing. 

Here's my sneak peak of Chloe......or Ava....I haven't quite decided on her name yet. That's the last thing I need to decide before I enter her...and well drive there to drop her off. Which means...fabric might accidentally fall into my arms again. 

I picked up her skirt fabric over the summer at my favorite flea market. It's a delicious rose print that just called to me for a dress for Elise. I pinched a little of it because it was just too perfect for little miss fox and reality is this fox is going to end up being for Elise so I thought how cute to have matching little outfits.

Baby Redwood

This is one of my favorite projects that was made over the summer. We found a huge lot of redwood furniture on Craigslist early summer and Brian spent a good portion of his free time sanding, re-staining, fixing and then hunting for cushions so we could have a complete set on our patio. We had a gorgeous Sunday afternoon spent it with friends and it was pulled out once more before the nasty winter finally sets in..

Brian took one of the ricketiest adult chairs and salvaged all the good pieces and turned it into a"baby" chair. More like a toddler chair but next to the full size chairs it's a baby. I made fun little cushions. We have one more chair to turn into one this size. So we'll have a set of two....for Elise and a little friend or a doll:).

Here is the chair naked.....we (he) kept the original design and look even down to the metal support for the bottom.

I think I'm already daydreaming of next summer.......and it's only November.......I'm doomed this winter.

Elsie Dress

A few weeks ago I treated myself little bit the Elsie Dress pattern from Sew Sweet Patterns. If you've never heard of them you must go check out their website. This is my first pattern from them and I can't wait to pick up a few more. One of the major selling points for this frugal sewing mama is that most of their dress patterns have a huge size range, so I can make it multiple times as she keeps growing.........

The pattern was easy to follow and so much fun to sew. I learned a few new tricks, like butterfly sleeves and am so thrilled with the outcome.

I know, the picture would be so much cuter if little bit was wearing it but 1. she's in bed and 2. I made the size up, I plan on having her wear this with a little sweater and some leggings over the winter. Which is also why I loved this pattern, it can be worn by itself or layered.

 Here's a few close up shots of some of the details. The pattern didn't call for the ric rac or the pocket, but I am obsessed with pockets and ric rac so how could I resist.

Lastly, my confession.......I still have three little buttons to sew on the back. I picked random ones out of my stash. I think their super cool and funky.

I'm just itching to get the Nancy Dress Pattern......next time. The little collar is so sweet.

Circle Quilt

I totally gush over anything Riley Blake when it comes to sewing for little bit. I found this cute little fabric on a crazy sale and new I had to have it. The little woodland creatures are just so cute. I threw in a few other fabrics from some different lines. It's super bright and cheery. Perfect for any little girl.

It's a quilt as you go method, and I must say I really enjoyed this method......as my close quilting friends know - I hate basting. hate it. So no basting and no batting. There is muslin in the middle and it's surprisingly warm and pretty heavy for a little quilt. I'm hoping to make one for my own bed using a batik I have lurking in my stash and some of my hand dyed fabrics.

Elephant Quilt

I made this quilt for little bit before she was born, and I fell in love with it hard the first time we played on it. Tummy time is pretty popular around here. The patterns were so busy that I was glad I stayed with a simple design and quilting. It's already been washed a gazillion times and drooled all over:). Just wanted I made it for.

Wooden Teether Toys

We've been busy in the woodworking shop. Teethers are made out of a piece of gorgeous Black Walnut and sized perfectly for little baby hands to hold and shake. So happy. I'd love to hear what shapes you'd like to see. So far we have the elephant, snail and a butterfly.

 

I love the simplicity of wooden toys.......I think she does too.

Itty Bitty Dress

When little bit was born, I was just itching to make her, her first Easter dress. She was teeny tiny and only 3 1/2 weeks old. I found this great free! Pattern by Made By Rae. The pattern was great, it was easy and I successfully sewed my first piece of clothing. A new mama couldn't be more proud of herself. I changed it a little bit and instead of tie straps I put button snaps.

Sweet little dress

I fell in love with this fabric the second my eyes found it. I knew it would be the perfect little baby dress. The sweet white piping on the bust and little hem line. A mama could just melt over it!

Ruby Lou Dolls

Back during the winter I won a giveaway for a pattern from Abby at Sew Much Ado. If you've never been over to her blog you must! She is adorable and her patterns are so well written. I made my first Ruby Lou Doll for a birthday gift and loved her so much I decided I needed more for other little special girls in my life. Ruby Lou is just so sweet and will be simply adorable hanging out of my baby girl's stocking come Christmas morning!

 

I'm thrilled to have a few Christmas gifts under my belt this week as I already feel behind. Time to start working on the nephews! I'd love any ideas you have for boys.
