Improv Tree Block

In between tummy time with Elise and drafting out my next christmas gift idea to be sewn, I knocked out another quilt bee block. Here is the starter block

Isn't it so cute! The front porch is adorable and look at the little windows....I love it! We were asked to make a block inspired by our neighborhood to go along with hers. 

One of the many things, I really enjoy about my quirky, old neighborhood is our trees and the trees at the park in the back of the neighborhood. We have a gorgeous park with baseball fields, a super big playground, a hiking trail through the forest and a fun creek to play in.

 

I've never made trees in a quilt block so I was excited for the challenge. I think it goes really well with her cool little house. The two birds crack me up too:). tweet - tweet.

buzz........buzzz......

So excited to get my first quilt bee block in the mail. Here is what I got for inspiration.

 She said she wanted blue/teal/aqua, reds and pinks with a splash of green. This is my complimentary block that I made her.

I kept it simple and "blocky" like the original but added different dimensions and shapes. I am really happy with it. I also got to sneak a peak at the first block that was made for my wonky log cabin quilt. I'm pretty excited. Only 12-13 more months until mine are finished traveling and back in my hands.

I have a second block to make for the bee with the inspiration being "your neighborhood". Still chewing on what to do....maybe trees? Probably some paper-piecing of some sort....hopefully I'll have something to show later this week.

Quilt Bee Starter Block

I am so super excited...yes, super excited to be part of my first quilt bee! or it might be a round robin...not sure what the differences are but I am so super excited:). I choose to do something simple and just ask for a scrappy-wonky log cabin.

This is my starter block........it's headed off in the mail soon. I'm hoping this gets me motivated to start using up my scraps...the pile is over flowing. This also lets me add some variety into my scrappy quilt, getting some other quilters scraps. I can't wait to see what goodies they have to add.
